Bar Red
Conceived back in 1999 during Ken Wingate’s involvement with Wingate & Moon, Bar Red was located in the heart of Soho, London.
A tight space with a tight budget, a real challenge was faced to create a bar and restaurant in this concrete shell. We kept it simple and uncluttered, working with the concrete by giving the walls special paint finishes to resemble leather and soft red velvet whilst keeping as much concrete exposed as possible.
All units were made to order including cast concrete sink tops, a low lit bar, a loo area based on an aircraft with aluminium doors made from warehouse space dividers. Key finishes were raw concrete, black mild steel, specialist plasters and paint finishes and a resin floor straight over the rough concrete. The frontage was completely red with a concrete cross, and the back entrance reflected the front, but with a thin red line across the window.
